Visit Charlottesville Virginia

Charlottesville, Virginia was rated the #1 city to live in by Frommers. You get the convenience of a big city, with Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Airport servicing several major airlines, and the hospitality of a small town. You can stay in a luxury hotel, or enjoy the coziness of a bed and breakfast getaway just for two. Don't forget to plan a tasting trip to one of our many wineries. Are you a history buff? Eight presidents came from Virginia, and two were born in Charlottesville. You can still visit the homes of Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe at Monticello and Ash Lawn Highland.
At the top of my list for things to see and do in Charlottesville, Va is Carter’s Mountain Orchard- Open Monday – Saturday 9-6, Sunday 10-5 mid April thru November and weekends in December. It costs nothing to enter and if you so desire, you can just walk around and enjoy the view. For the more adventuresome, you can pick your own fruit in season and pay by the pound or if you want someone else to do the work, they have pre-picked stuff you can purchase as well.
Not too far from Charlottesville, you’ll find a great place to visit called Luray Caverns. Here you will go on a guided underground tour of Luray Caverns and experience some of the greatest and most magnificent stalagtites and stalagmites. It is truly a detour worth taking.
I went to Luray Caverns about 5 or 6 years ago and was very impressed with the way it has been preserved. The stalacpipe organ was my favorite. The stalactites are actually struck with a rubber tipped mallet thereby generating different pitches which are turned into music on the organ. They are open everyday of the year with tours departing every 20 minutes.
